"Fraccion de Segundo" by Anima (Latin artist from Honduras)

"Fracción de Segundo" is a Latin alternative pop album featuring beautiful melodies and and upbeat sensibility from Honduran band Anima. Anima combines the pop rock sound of the early Beatles, as well as of the '80s with a hint of Latin and directs it towards Latin audience – sort of like if Peter Gabriel or Sting sang in Spanish. Anima brings you a tremendous amount of diversity, not only as talented performers, but also as great songwriters and arrangers. The sound is full, with boundless interesting creative choices in each and every song. The quality of the recording is also very good, so the listener gets the full impact of the lyrics and the music. Highlights include "Cuando Te Vas," which opens with a wicked disco riff and drum machine, then switches to a softer, guitar-laden sound. "El Ayer" is a beautiful track that features a nice guitar progression and strings. "Aléjate" has a nice Rhodes organ progression then erupts into a melancholy rocker. With "Fracción de Segundo," Anima have created an impressive album that uniquely combines diverse genres to form a modern sound without losing the classic elements. If you enjoy quirky, creative alternative pop and Latin music, give "Fracción de Segundo" a listen.

"La Tin-va Fitness" by Johnny Latin (Latin/Pop artist from Los Angeles, California (CA))

"La Tin-va Fitness" is a Latin pop album constructed for the purpose of turning anyone into a dancer and keeping them fit from Johnny Latin. This release is certainly an experience, as it comes with a music-filled CD as well as a step-by-step dance instruction DVD based upon the classes conducted by Johnny in the Southern California area. It is no secret that Latin music possesses a great amount of energy and flair, and the music from this collection is no exception. It's full of quirky percussion, hip turning beats, stabbing horns, and dance-style vocals. The production value is very good, as the album is mixed to play loud. Highlights include "Move Your Body," a track you can sing along with as it takes you through a sweaty house/pop musical experience. "Mamasita" has a thick, punchy beat, and tremendous sex appeal. "Johnny" is a whirlwind of beats, moves fast and challenges you to test your endurance. "La Tin-va Fitness" is a really unique concept for an album, and it delivers as a musical experience, a dance lesson, and a workout all in one. If you enjoy finding exciting new ways of keeping fit and dancing along to Latin pop music, give Johnny Latin a try.

"Magic Corner" by Rudy Albano (Latin Artist from The Netherlands)

"Magic Corner" is a creative Latin jazz fusion album that features the unique and stylish work of talented saxophonist Rudy Albano. Albano's work is refined, polished, and fits very nicely with Latin rhythms and progressions. The sound of this album is original and non-traditional, pushing the envelope in both performance and creative choices. Each song almost has an individual personality attached to it that will stimulate your ears and intellect. The production value is very good as well, so you can hear each instrument clearly with no instrumental overlap as Albano takes you through this journey of heavily layered arrangements. Highlights include "Crazy Blues," a very quirky and atonal track with bizarre rhythms and a very unconventional arrangement. The title track, "Magic Corner," gets you moving right away with its lively rhythm and later incorporates a great sax solo and a killer bass line. "It's Like Fun" is probably the catchiest track with its Latin rhythms and upbeat nature that will instantly bring a smile to your face. "Magic Corner" is an impressive album that displays Albano's ability both as a composer and as a saxophonist. If you enjoy experimental jazz heavy on the Latin elements, pick up this album.
