"Batida Diferente" by Norberto Goldberg (Latin/Jazz Artist from New York City, New York(NY))

"Batida Diferente" is an extremely well made Brazilian/Latin Jazz album by drummer Norberto Goldberg and his fellow talented musicians. Some of the best tracks on this album are in fact original compositions. For instance, the fast-paced and fun "Baiao" is well crafted with moving drum beats that compliment the melodic melody of the guitar and sax. The title track "Batida Diferente" pulls off some expert tempo changes with ease, showing off the talent of all the players. The album, "Batida Diferente," isn't just for fans of Latin Jazz or dance clubs; it's for all listeners who can appreciate outstanding music played with expert musicianship.

"Del Castillo" by Del Castillo (Latin Artist from Texas(TX))

The Latin Rock fusion band Del Castillo and their self-titled album is a thorough blend of styles from all around Latin America and Spain coupled with sultry, romantic, and even tragic lyrics. All thirteen tracks will pull the listener into dramatic sounds of flamenco guitars and the lively beats of conga and bongo drums. "Boricua del Cielo" is a flamenco salsa crossover that opens the CD giving a perfect introduction to the style of this band. The song speaks of an enchanting woman who seems to have 'magic' in the way that she dances. The harmony in this track brings a lot of life to the lyrics and it's near impossible to not dance or at least want to when listening. "Anybody Wanna" is a Spanglish cumbia-rock combo that has an easy going sound throughout the track, but invites the listener to dance at the same time. A standard drum set is prominent in this track and the lead singer's strong vocal range is fully showcased. Where the Gypsy Kings and Los Lonely Boys met is where Del Castillo was created. This is a CD that can and will be enjoyed by aficionados of multiple musical tastes.

"Island Ecstasy" by Frank Tuma (Latin Artist from Florida(FL))

"Island Ecstasy," the new CD from Frank Tuma, is designed to transport us all to the warm Caribbean Islands. It is an instrumental album replete with all the variety of Caribbean style percussive instruments, guitars, and piano, accompanied with a heavy emphasis upon the upbeat and expressive steel drum. On the first track, "Caribbean Dancing," there is a quick and excited beat over which we hear talented steel drumming played at a speed that will baffle and excite the ears. "A Bit of Africa in the Caribbean" is a song that lives up to its title as it is a cool blend of African and Island drum sounds, with flutes and steel drums doing the singing. For the song, "Living My Dreams," Frank slows it down a little and uses his island rhythms as a relaxant. Whether you are already a fan of the sounds of the Caribbean Islands, or appreciate when an album attempts to mentally transport you to another place, then you should give the "Island Ecstasy" CD a try.

"Grandma Mary's Latin Rock" by Mary Ho (Latin/Blues Artist from Singapore)

"Grandma Mary's Latin Rock," from the 71-year-old Mary Ho, is a release filled mostly with calm and mellow renditions of popular songs. The background instrumentation is relatively simple throughout the album, yet it is professional and not overbearing. This is because the focus of this instrumental album, is on Mary's articulate and skilled guitar playing. On "Black Magic Woman" we really get a sense of Mary's bluesy side as she plays with soul and gusto. On "Apache" we are presented with a quasi-soothing western song in which she lets her guitar sing out in a lovely fashion. On the final track, "Canon Rock," Grandma Mary rips out some hot rock lead guitar riffs! This album is filled with numerous genres and sounds; it is for the most part a tranquil album, with some rockers mixed in as well. You will appreciate this album if you want to be inspired by an album that demonstrates that a love for music is a lifelong passion.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Marco Ulloa with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Apuntale a la Verdad"

"Apuntale a la Verdad" is an excellent acoustic-driven release from singer/songwriter Marco Ulloa that features great Latin and world elements. Ulloa delivers with a clean, moving, and heartfelt vocal, primarily in the Spanish language. The arrangements on this album are also phenomenal, with great Latin-influenced acoustic work accompanied by world percussion, harmonica, and shakers to give the songs their full sound. The songs are sad and heartfelt, mostly about love but also about spirituality, as can be heard in "Jesus" and "Todo Por EL." The simple production of "Apuntale a la Verdad" effectively provides clean instruments and vocals while maintaining a great raw quality. "Tu y Tu Gracia" opens up the album with some fantastic acoustic work and heartfelt lyrics, and puts Ulloa's broad vocal range on display. "A Bit More" is the only English language track on the album that features more great acoustic work and the memorable chorus, "All I want is your soul, your love, your time, and a bit more." Overall, Marco Ulloa has put together an impressive album penetrable to both Spanish and non-Spanish speakers due his soothing and heartfelt vocals and well-crafted acoustic arrangements. Fans of Spanish language acoustic songs with world and Latin elements should definitely check this one out.
